YWCA Renew is a free eight week program for women who have experienced breast cancer at any time in their lives and who are at least eight weeks post-surgery. It incorporates exercise, information and support.
YWCA Renew is comprised of one (1) two-hour session once per week for eight weeks. These sessions are comprised of approximately 15 minutes of sharing time, a 45 minute presentation by a professional guest speaker followed by one hour of exercise. Health topics covered by the guest speakers may be, but are not limited to: lymphedema, sexual health, nutrition, relaxation and follow up exercise programs available after YWCA Renew. A Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) creates personal program plans unique to each participant’s needs and oversees all exercise sessions in the weight room. There is one pool session that is led by the CEP.
The goal of YWCA Renew is to provide a supportive and therapeutic exercise program, delivered in nonmedical surroundings, for women of any age, who have experienced breast cancer and its treatment at any time. The objectives of this program include participants being able to share common experiences and concerns with other women who have first-hand knowledge of the challenges that stem from breast cancer surgery and understand each other’s journey. This program also provides participants with the opportunity to further their own personal development and self-esteem.
